Your car may crank normally, the dash may light up, and yet the engine will not start. When a security or key-shaped warning light is flashing, the answer may be what causes immobilizer failure: the vehicle no longer recognizes the key or cannot complete the electronic authorization needed to start.
An immobilizer is designed to prevent theft, but it can create a stressful no-start situation when a key, battery, antenna, module, or programming issue gets in the way. What Causes Immobilizer Failure Most Often?
An immobilizer system relies on several parts working together. The transponder chip in your key or smart fob sends identification data.
